After obtaining her medical degree from University of New South Wales Australia, Dr. Angela Merianos completed master degrees in Public Health and Applied Epidemiology, and is a fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine, Royal Australasian College of Physicians. In 2012, Dr. Merianos received further training at the Australian Emergency Management Institute.
From 2003 to 2005, Dr. Merianos was involved with SARS Focal Point at WHO. Between 2006 and 2011, she was the team leader for Risk Assessment and Decision Support, Alert and Response Operations at WHO. She was part of the WHO team in Sri Lanka following the 2004 Asian Tsunami, the 2008 Sichuan earthquake and the 2014 typhoon Haiyan response in the Philippines. Recently with the WHO Fiji office, she provided training to clinicians and public health staff in the Pacific Island countries on the prevention and control of Ebola virus disease.
Dr Merianos’ main expertise are the prevention and control of emerging infectious diseases, field epidemiology and risk assessment.
