Dr. Shou-Jiang Gao
University of Southern California

Dr. Shou-Jiang (SJ) Gao is a Professor at the University of Southern California. He earned his PhD in microbiology at the University of Bordeaux, France and received Postdoctoral training at Columbia University. Dr. Gao is a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology and members of several professional organizations. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed scientific papers and made important contributions to the epidemiological and molecular characterizations of Kaposi’s sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV). His works have provided critical insights into the oncogenesis of KSHV-related cancers. Dr. Gao has received numerous awards for his pioneer works including the Inaugural Discovery of the Year Award from the Cancer Therapy and Research Center, American Society of Microbiology ICAAC Outstanding Young Investigator Award, American Cancer Society Research Scholar Award, HEB Distinguished Chair for Cancer Research, and Chinese Government Type B Thousand Talents. He serves as the Editor-In-Chief for the Journal of Medical Virology, a Section Editor for PLOS Pathogens, and an Academic Editor for PLOS One and PeerJ as well as on the Editorial Boards of numerous scientific journals. He has organized several international conferences and is a frequent invited speaker for international conferences. He regularly serves as a grant reviewer for federal agencies and private foundations, and as an advisor for several scientific organizations.
